  • Chantilly?

I've seen the postings for Moonlight. Any observations on Chantilly?

I think it was mostly there when we walked past, but honestly didn't pay it too much attention.

We did a walkpast trying to cross the Creek and noted the bottom section in but the top looked very thin. Might be protectable now. But doubted it when we had a look

        Thanks for the info!

It was a fun climb. Not loads of ice but protected well where it counts

Took a friend to Chantilly on Sunday 17-Feb-2013. Another party from Edmonton was on the route also and were gracious enough to work with us and share the ice. Many thanks. It was snowing throughout the day and the low angle section between pitches was accumulating snow. There were also a couple of sloughs from above but nothing major. The ice is in excellent shape with soft hero ice on the first pitch, a little wet in places.

Second pitch is in pretty typical shape for time of year. Lower angle, easier on the right, steepening up as you move left. The steeper stuff had a little more chandelier and brittle ice but was still in good shape. Good pro. The very left edge was pouring wet, growing, and all that new ice chandelier stuff.

It's still a little bit of a climb to reach the rap anchor or as an alternative, if you continue up the ice to the trees, there were a couple of cords and quicklink on the most obvious tree.

All in all a very pleasant ramble right now.

Sat 27th April. No recent travel on the trail but the track was still visible. Was supportive in the morning but softer afternoon conditions caused postholing.

Climb was in reasonable shape. First pitch was easy, good sticks. Second pitch was nice, some chandelier but some nice solid lines too. Snowcone is minimal but the climb does get sun on its right side now the sun rises early. The very far left of the second pitch has formed a short, steep pillar with interesting hooking, and stemming.
